Yeah, Kim has played more tournaments in 2005 than any other top 6 player in the race despite missing the start of the season.

Well if you win the most important tier I tourneys and three tier 2 tourneys and you win 5 out of 11 tourneys the ranking is justified. Let us face it her underperformance at both slams was due to a tough draw and poor strategy and mental preparation.

I believe she has :sad: But only just. Every time she gets points, the following week, more drop off, basically bringing her right back to where she was two weeks previously. She'll climb again once this week's points drop onto the board after RG, should push her back inside and back towards the top 500 again. If she wins, she'll be back inside sure enough. Then she's got the rest of the season to look forward to having got very little to defend due to her injury last year! She'll be climbing slowly but surely towards the 400 mark again soon :D Good luck to her! :D

well I'm really no good in men's tennis, especially stuf that happened when i was just a baby.
i just remember someone talking about that feature (4 in top100) in one of the sport programs they had in Galey Tzahal.

Shahar is getting close to securing a place in the top-50... according to may calculation, the only player that could overtake her with win in her next match is Granville (against Petrova)... 5 other players further down are still in US Open, but they need more than one win to get to 700 pts... needless to say, they all play higher ranked opponents, and the chances that 4 of those 6 will make it are very slim...
OTOH, if Shahar will beat Vento-Kabchi she could advance to 45th place, just behind Anna Smashnova...

Sucha just lost, only 5 players remain below Shahar... and that include Lisjak who should reach the final to get to 700 pts... I would say that it's quite safe, but just in case will wait till 2 of those lose...
Shahar can do the job herself if she beat Vento-Kabchi and not only eliminate her opponent but also move ahead of Kirilenko and Linetskaya... but if she fails, I would expect a little help from Sharapova, Petrova, Vaidisova and Henin...

Gold exempt is top 16 + 4 wild cards (chosen by tournament directors)
Silver exempt is remaining players in top 50.

If I calculated right, if MVK beat Kim she will jump to 44th place (just above Smashnova with 769 pts) and get silver exempt at the expense of Zheng.

For Davenport to become #1 (in fact to stay at #1), she has to reach the semi if Sharapova lose in QF or earlier, or to reach the final and Sharapova lose in semi, or to beat Sharapova in the final.

Venus will move above Justin to #5 if she wins QF, she can move above Kim to #4 only if she wins the title.
Kim will move up to #3 if she wins the title and Amelie lose in QF, maybe also if Amelie lose in SF.
Petrova and Dementieva can move above Serena if they win their QF, but I don't fancy their chances to beat Sharapova and Davenport respectively...

Win in QF is worth 130 pts + quality pts
Win in semi 164 pts + quality pts
Win in final 194 pts + quality pts

As to the #1... if Lindsay reach one round further that Maria she retains #1, if Maria reach the same round or better she regains #1... not sure that works out for all possibilities but for the more reasonable options...
