Alexandra Podkolzina received a WC for the Main Draw in the US Open 2002 and since then she has played only 8 tournaments (qualies in Indian Wells, Memphis & Stanford 2003 included) with little success...best result came in $50K Los Gatos 2003 where she defeated Brianti, Kirkland and Nakamura before losing against Groenefeld.

I guess she's been studying all this time and she should easily qualify :)
BTW in this time she found time to switch nationalities from RUS to USA ;)

Whoa Ansley Cargill and Tara Snyder lost their first round of doubles 6-3 6-4 to a wild card team. Nice to see Tara back after 11 months off from play, but...umm...:tape: Hopefully her form starts to come back.

Anne Smith has an excellent shot to win her first round of doubles though :)

I looked up who this Larikah Russell is. She plays her first ITF tournament here only played Fed Cup for the Bahamas before (the last time in 2002 lost to Maureen Drake 06 06)

Sasha has been playing college tennis at the University of California Berkeley since the fall of 2003. Although most of her season got wiped out due to mono. It seems though that Sasha has either been kicked off the team or decided to quit. About halfway through the end of the fall season, her name dissapeared from the roster. I suspect that she was kicked off the team as she never really fit in with the idea of team tennis. Sasha's overconfident and cocky and knows that she's good. I think she really did not like that fact that she played No. 4 singles last year and was going to play No. 2 singles behind a freshmen this year. I have other stories about Sasha and her experience at Cal (I just graduated this past semester). But yeah it seems like she has decided to quit college tennis at head to the pros. She always complained that the college level was way way way lower than the pros, but that never explained why she lost so much ;)
